Slaughterfest 2010

I can understand that raising and eating your own chickens is not something that everyone aspires to, but I do. My cousin Merissa and her husband are becoming chicken experts and they allowed me to take part in the slaughtering of their chickens. I didn't like the part where we had to slit their throats, but the rest was okay. I really like the idea of being self sufficient and not depending on the grocery store for everything. For video of the process, see the following:

wow--that is so interereting. I watched the video--I like how he discreetly avoided the bloody part--but it stopped before I could see the plucking machine. I wanted to see that! I've always wondered about how chickens were plucked (not that it keeps me up at night, though)
Very cool--and they can say their chickens are 100% natural! That is very very cool.

But not cool enough for me to stop going to the grocery store. :)

I'm glad you thought it was interesting. I wouldn't say it was pleasurable, but I am glad I did it. I just added a link to the plucker, so you can see it.

Holy cow! I could never do it! I'll stick to gardening, and keep buying my already plucked, boned, and skinned chicken!

my oh my, I'm loving those videos that you all made. I'm like Chelsea, I've always wondered how they pluck a chicken. Very interesting. I hope the effort was worth it.
